The entire original Off-Broadway cast of I Love You Because reunites for a 10th anniversary concert performance December 4 at Feinstein’s/54 Below.
Concerts are held at 7 PM and 9:30 PM featuring Colin Hanlon (Falsettos, Submissions Only), Farah Alvin (It Shoulda Been You, The Marvelous Wonderettes), Stephanie D’Abruzzo (Avenue Q), David A. Austin (Composer: Beaches), Courtney Balan (Falsettos), and Jordan Leeds (Les Misérables).
I Love You Because is the Drama Desk-nominated Off-Broadway musical from the Larson Award-winning team of Joshua Salzman and Ryan Cunningham that has gone on to over 100 productions around the world, including translations into five languages.
The musical, according to press notes, “is the story of Austin Bennet, a greeting card writer who walks in on his girlfriend with another man. He is sent back out into the New York City dating scene with only his idiot brother, Jeff, to guide him. It’s there that he meets Marcy, a flaky photographer with dating troubles of her own—and an actuarial best friend, Diana, who is trying to calculate her future. In order to move on with their lives, these four Manhattanites must put their pasts behind them and learn that true happiness isn’t found by loving someone in spite of their faults, but learning to say, ‘I Love You Because.’”
Salzman (music) and Cunningham (book and lyrics) are Jonathan Larson Award winners as well as Drama Desk and MAC Award-nominated writers. Their musical Next Thing You Know has been produced at CAP21 in New York, across America, and in Europe. Their funk musical The Legend of New York has been developed at Millikin University, NYU, and Northwestern University, and played a concert at 54 Below. Their new musical, Michael Collins, will be performed at the American Musical Theatre Project at Northwestern in February 2017.
Feinstein’s/54 Below is located at 254 West 54th Street. There is a $35-$75 cover charge and a $25 food and beverage minimum. Tickets and information are available at 54Below.com.
