Classic Stage Company has found the full cast for its upcoming reading of Lucille Fletcher's Night Watch, the first of this season's Rediscovery Readings series. The performance is set for September 29 at the Off-Broadway company's Lynn F. Angelson Theater. Francesca Sabel is directing.
Starring will be Bartley Booz (Peter Pan Goes Wrong), Gilly Caulo (Fidelio), Gibson Frazier (Mr. Burns), Tony winner Nikki M. James (Suffs), Erin Markey (Staff Meal), Louis Ozama (Caught), Alison Pill (Uncle Vanya), Greg Stuhr (Good Night, and Good Luck), and Lana Young (My First Ex-Husband).
Night Watch debuted on Broadway in 1972 and was later made into a film starring Elizabeth Taylor. The piece centers on a woman named Elaine Wheeler who is plagued by anxious insomnia. During one of her sleepless nights, she witnesses a murder in the abandoned building across the street from her apartment, leading to a series of mysteries and twists as her sanity is questioned by everyone around her.
The Rediscovery Readings are a series of one-night-only events, where little-known classic plays are performed by a starry cast.
"I found myself holding my breath as a I first read Night Watch—it has a brilliant intensity and an ability to unmoor you every time you think you have it figured out,” said Jill Rafson, CSC's producing artistic director in an earlier statement. “The characters are as surprising as the story itself, and I can't wait to share them through the fantastic cast we're assembling for this reading."
