Broadway News More Original Outsiders Set Final Broadway Bows

The Tony-winning musical adapted from S.E. Hinton’s seminal novel opened in 2024.

Several remaining members of the original cast of The Outsiders on Broadway have announced their imminent departure from the production, including the show's current principal Ponybony. 

Trevor Wayne, who began in the original cast as a swing before succeeding Brody Grant as Ponyboy Curtis, will play his final performance March 15, with several other original and long standing cast members also taking their final bow, including Brent Comer as Darrel Curtis, Jason Schmidt as Sodapop Curtis, Kevin William Paul as Bob, Renni Anthony Magee as Steve, SarahGrace Mariani as Marcia, and Melody Rose as Beverly. Alex Joseph Grayson, who joined the cast in February 2025, as Dallas Winston, is also giving his final performance March 15.

As previously announced, Tony Award-nominee Sky Lakota-Lynch will also play his final performance as Johnny Cade March 15. The week prior to the other cast members' departures, original Broadway cast member and associate choreographer Tilly Evans-Krueger will depart, taking her final bow March 8.

Currently running at the Jacobs Theatre on Broadway where the musical opened April 11, 2024, The Outsiders is adapted from S.E. Hinton's novel and Francis Ford Coppola's film adaptation. Set in 1967 Tulsa, Oklahoma, the musical follows Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and their chosen family of "outsiders," who are in a fight for survival and a quest for purpose in a world that may never accept them. The musical features a book by Adam Rapp with Justin Levine and music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival and Justin Levine.

The Outsiders won the Best Musical Tony Award as well as Best Direction of a Musical (Danya Taymor), Lighting Design (Brian MacDevitt and Hana S. Kim), and Sound Design (Cody Spencer) at the 2024 Tony Awards.

The Broadway production also features music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Levine; choreography by Rick Kuperman and Jeff Kuperman; scenography by AMP featuring Tatiana Kahvegian; costume design by Sarafina Bush; Tony-winning lighting design by Brian MacDevitt and Hana S. Kim; Tony-winning sound design by Cody Spencer; and music direction by Matt Hinkley. Casting is by The TRC Company's Xavier Rubiano.
