Michael Urie, most recently on Broadway in Harvey Fierstein's Torch Song, has landed a leading role in the NBC pilot Friends-in-Law, according to the The Hollywood Reporter.
The Ugly Betty alum will co-star with Wrecked's Zach Cregger, playing polar opposites whose respective best friends decide to marry. The couple headed down the aisle will be played by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's Vella Lovell and Big Mouth's Gil Ozeri. Urie and Cregger’s characters join forces to try to disrupt the couple’s wedding plans.
NBC passed on the pilot in 2018; the new version reunites the original creators: writer Brian Gallavin, executive producer Tom Werner, and director-executive producer Pam Fryman.
Prior to Torch Song, Urie appeared on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. His additional stage credits include Off-Broadway's Shows For Days, Buyer & Cellar, and The Government Inspector.
