Benefits and Galas Metropolitan Room Hosts Tribute to Madeline Kahn September 13 Hanna Burke performs Why Is Everyone Laughing? at the New York City venue.

MAC Award nominee Hanna Burke will recreate Why is Everyone Laughing?, her cabaret tribute to comic actor Madeline Kahn, September 13 at the Metropolitan Room as a benefit for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance.

Kahn died of the disease in 1999 at age 57.

Why is Everyone Laughing?' A Tribute to Madeline Kahn earned Burke a MAC Award nomination earlier this year. Burke performs several of the numbers for which Kahn was famous, including “Never” from On the Twentieth Century, “Getting Married Today” from Company, “Down in the Depths (On the Ninetieth Floor)” from At Long Last Love, and the Kurt Weill parody “Das Chicago Song” from New Faces of 1968, as well as her signature song, “I’m Tired” from Blazing Saddles.

Kahn made her Broadway debut in Leonard Sillman’s New Faces of 1968, and appeared the following year opposite Danny Kaye in the musical Two by Two. Other Broadway appearances include Boom Boom Room (1973), Born Yesterday (1989), and The Sisters Rosensweig (1993), Her performance in the latter earned her a 1993 Tony Award. She originated the role of Lily Garland in the Cy Coleman musical On the Twentieth Century in 1978, which garnered her a Tony nomination.

Burke will be accompanied in the performance by singers Adrian Rifat, Rachael Joyce, and Will Anderson, as well as musicians Jeff Cubeta, Billy Smolen, and Simon Fishburn.
