Awards Lucille Lortel Awards Set May Date and Name Special Award Recipients

Playwright Alice Childress will be posthumously inducted onto the Playwrights' Sidewalk.

The annual Lucille Lortel Awards, the only New York theatre award to exclusively honor Off-Broadway, will be held May 4 at 7 PM at NYU Skirball.

Special Award recipients for 2025 have also been announced: Playwright Alice Childress (Trouble in Mind) will be posthumously inducted onto the Playwrights' Sidewalk in front of the Lucille Lortel Theatre, the New Federal Theatre will receive the award for Outstanding Body of Work, and Carol Fishman will be honored with the Edith Oliver Service to Off-Broadway Award. For 14 years, Fishman served as managing director and production manager of Second Stage, where she produced over 70 productions.

Productions must open by April 1 to be eligible for nomination for the 2025 Lucille Lortel Awards. Nominations will be announced April 2 with a nominees breakfast scheduled for April 23. Writer/director Michael will Heitzman direct the May 4 ceremony.

Celebrating four decades of recognizing Off-Broadway excellence, the Lortel awards are produced by the Off-Broadway League and the Lucille Lortel Theatre, with additional support provided by TDF.

The forthcoming ceremony will be open to the public. Tickets will go on sale April 3 at Tickets.nyu.edu or at the NYU Skirball box office.
