Broadway fans, get ready to set sail! The highly anticipated Seth Rudetsky’s Broadway Cruise to the Caribbean is just around the corner, and cabins are still available. As with all Seth Rudetsky’s Broadway Cruises, there’s a great lineup of stars performing and mingling with guests. Among them are Tony Award winner Lillias White and Broadway star Arielle Jacobs.
With White has been in more than 11 Broadway shows, including her Tony-winning performance in The Life, and was most recently seen in Hadestown as the first female Hermes. Jacobs is known for her unforgettable leading roles in Here Lies Love, Aladdin, and Between The Lines. Both powerhouses are ready to bring their talent and charm to the high seas, where they will join Tony winner Priscilla Lopez and Anika Larsen.
We caught up with the duo to talk about the upcoming trip, their connection to Seth, and what fans can expect from this unique Broadway adventure.
What are you most excited about for Seth Rudetsky’s Broadway Cruise to the Caribbean, and what do you hope to experience while on board?
Lillias White: I've been to the Caribbean a few times and I really enjoy the beauty of the water, the blue crystal clarity of the seas. while on board, I'm looking forward to enjoying the other performers, partaking in the food, and resting while floating to paradise!
Arielle Jacobs: I am so excited to be spending my days and nights out on the ocean, sailing and singing, along with some of Broadway’s most talented artists and the best people in the biz! I’ve been a fan of Lillias White and Anika Larsen for so long. And it's a dream to be soon reuniting with Priscilla Lopez (who played my mom when I played Nina in In the Heights on Broadway.)”
Seth is known for his incredible knowledge of Broadway and his hilarious "Deconstructed" videos. How did you first meet Seth, and what is your favorite memory of working or spending time with him?
White: I have known Seth for many years now so many years that I don't remember exactly how we met! One of my favorite memories of being in Seth's company is doing the dream girls deconstruction. I've also enjoyed performing with him at the synagogue.
Jacobs: Seth and I have collaborated so many times over the last decade that I’ve lost track! I first met Seth back in 2011, when I made my Broadway debut as Nina Rosario in the closing cast of In The Heights, and I sang with Christopher Jackson on Sirius XM “Live on Broadway”, hosted by Seth! (I actually found a video of it on YouTube!) I got be a guest on Seth’s Sirius XM show when I launched The Broadway Pup (my company that sells punny Broadway-themed dog bandanas that I designed, and gives all profits to animal shelters). I also was a guest on his show “Stars in the House” during the pandemic, and performed in the “Broadway for America at Town Hall” concert, sang with him and the Jewish Broadway Alliance in Times Square, and most recently sang with him and Ali Ewoldt at the Actors Fund Home in New Jersey to bring a smile to the faces of the residents there. I adore Seth and his big heart, and the way that he uses music to spread joy and inspire powerful action.
Seth Rudetsky’s Broadway Cruise is a unique opportunity for fans to get up close and personal with their favorite stars. What do you think makes this kind of intimate experience so special for both you and the fans?
White: When we perform on stage, we seldom get to know the people who are looking up at us. It's intriguing to know why someone is interested in witnessing theatre and I also enjoy knowing how the performances affect the audience. Very often what our patrons experience in the theater productions, our life-changing events and I like to know that what I do has a positive effect on whoever is out there.
Jacobs: I think that Seth Rudetsky’s Broadway Cruise is totally different from any other experience for fans because it feels way more up close and personal. Maybe that’s because Seth brings that out of people…he makes people feel relaxed and playful, and it creates a feeling of closeness between the artist and the audience. Plus, the fact that journeying across the sea creates a bond between everyone onboard! Regardless, I’m excited to share even more of myself and my career history with the audiences.
Beyond the performances, what are you looking forward to doing in the Caribbean? Do you have a favorite port or a specific activity you’re hoping to do?
White: When we get to the Caribbean, I'm looking forward to extensive beach time, floating in the seas, swimming, tanning, having a massage on the beach, and maybe snorkeling!
Jacobs: I am seriously excited about visiting one of my favorite spots in the Caribbean: the Grand Cayman Islands! When I was kid, my family went snorkeling with the stingrays there, in Stingray City! I haven’t been back since. I’m looking forward to doing that again.
What's one thing you can tease or share with fans about what you'll be performing or discussing on the cruise?
White: I like to surprise my audiences! So, I won't be sharing everything right now, but I will be doing some of their favorite songs from some of my favorite and most memorable Broadway performances.
White: I hope that I will be able to sing songs from some of my favorite roles that I’ve done, as well as some new songs from shows I’ve never done, or roles I may never get to play. And I think I might have a very special surprise duet guest (fingers crossed) and fans definitely won’t want to miss that!
