Broadway News Lana Gordon Is Persephone in Broadway's Hadestown Starting February 22

Gordon succeeds the role's originator, Amber Gray, in the Tony-winning musical.

Lana Gordon takes over the role of Persephone in the Broadway production of the Tony-winning musical Hadestown February 22, following Amber Gray's departure. Joining the production in October 2021 as the Persephone alternate, Gordon is now playing the wine-drinking Greek goddess full-time.

Gordon, who made her Broadway debut as an original cast member in The Lion King, has also appeared on Broadway in Chicago and Jesus Christ Superstar, as well as the European tours of West Side Story and Hair.

Created by singer-songwriter Anaïs MitchellHadestown is currently playing the Walter Kerr Theatre. The musical has a cast led by Grammy winner Reeve Carney, Tony winner André De Shields, two-time Tony nominee Eva Noblezada, and Tony nominee Patrick Page. Jewelle Blackman, Jessie Shelton, and Kay Trinidad play the Fates, and the chorus of Workers are played by Emily Afton, Malcolm Armwood, Timothy Hughes, Trent Saunders, and Grace Yoo. 

Hadestown draws inspiration from Greek mythology and follows the love stories of Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and his wife Persephone. The musical took home eight Tony Awards in 2019, including Best Musical and Best Musical Score.
