Spacey, who recently hosted the 71st Annual Tony Awards, previously played the American Civil Liberties attorney in David W. Rintels’ show at the Old Vic in 2014 and in an encore performance in 2015. He also took on the role of Darrow in the 1991 TV movie Darrow and the Old Vic’s 2009 production of Inherit the Wind.
The 90-minute play charts the life and career of the lawyer, highlighting some of his most infamous trials. The play premiered on Broadway in 1974 with Henry Fonda in the title role.
The actor won Academy Awards for his performances in American Beauty and The Usual Suspects. He currently stars as Frank Underwood on the Netflix drama House of Cards, for which he received a Golden Globe Award and four Emmy nominations.
Spacey's numerous stage credits include a Tony-winning performance in Lost in Yonkers, as well as turns in The Iceman Cometh, A Moon for the Misbegotten, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, Hurlyburly, and Ghosts. He served as artistic director at the Old Vic from 2003 to 2015.
