Producers Michael McFadden and Katy Lipson have launched a new full-service theatrical production company, TRW Production. All of the new initiative's projects will be represented by theatrical licensor Theatrical Rights Worldwide, a partnership aimed at ensuring a life beyond their initial commercial runs in international, regional, and educational markets.
Among the projects already in development under the new banner are stage versions of the 2007 romcom Music and Lyrics, to be adapted by the title's screenwriter, Marc Lawrence; and the 2012 musical film Joyful Noise. The latter, which featured performances from Broadway notables Dolly Parton, Keke Palmer, Jeremy Jordan, Courtney B. Vance, Jesse L. Martin, Angela Grovey, Andy Karl, Dequina Moore, and Francis Jue, will be adapted by Todd Graff (Camp) and feature an original gospel-inspired score alongside pre-existing hits from such artists as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Usher. The score will also include original songs written for the film by Parton.
Also in development is a jukebox biomusical focused on rock-and-roll legend Chuck Berry, to be written by Will Power.
The company is also launching a mentorship program for the development of new musicals they're calling The Collective. The project will see a select group of emerging theatre writers meeting monthly to present material, receiving peer feedback with mentorship from the TRW team.
McFadden and Lipson enter this new venture with long established careers as theatrical producers, McFadden of Phoenix Entertainment and Lipson of Aria Entertainment. TRW Production is being done in collaboration with Theatrical Rights Worldwide owner and CEO Steve Spiegel.
