Comedian Kathy Buckley was born with a hearing loss. As a result she spent part of her life being labeled mentally retarded by teachers and, as a child, suffered sexual abuse. On top of that, she fell victim to an accident which left her partially paralyzed for five years and survived that to only to enter another physical battle, this time with cervical cancer. These events and more will be incorporated into Buckley's new one-person show, Don't Buck With Me!, which opens Off-Broadway at the 47th Street Theatre in late September (dates to be announced). Sue Wolf will direct the piece, which was penned by Buckley, who bills herself as "America's first hearing-impaired comedian."
