Lancaster, Pennsylvania has assembled an impressive cast for its season-opening presentation of Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer-winning play Driving Miss Daisy, set to play the company September 12-28. Executive Artistic Producer Marc Robin is directing.
Starring in the title role will be two-time Tony winner Judy Kaye, opposite David Jackson as Hoke Coleburn. Philadelphia-based Jared Michael Delaney will co-star as Boolie Werthan. Understudies Aaron Frederick, Luke Reed, and Donna Schilke will round out the company.
Kaye's prestigious Broadway career includes Tony-winning performances in The Phantom of the Opera and Nice Work If You Can Get It, along with turns in Grease, On the Twentieth Century, Ragtime, Mamma Mia!, Souvenir, Sweeney Todd, Cinderella, Anastasia, Diana, and Wicked. Jackson was last seen on Broadway in Tommy Tune Tonite!, and has also performed in Eubie!, My One and Only, La Cage aux Folles, and Grand Hotel.
Originally premiering Off-Broadway in 1987, Driving Miss Daisy tells the story of the unlikely friendship between an elderly Southern Jewish woman and her Black chauffeur in the middle of the 20th century. The play made the jump to the big screen in 1989 starring Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman, and has since become an oft-revived favorite.
Fulton's staging will feature scenic and lighting design by Paul Black, costume design by Eliza McCann, sound design by Seth Asa Sengel, prop design by Meg Valentine, and wig design by Anthony M. Lascoskie, Jr. John Atherlay will serve as production stage manager with Sofia Shirey as assistant stage manager. Joey Abramowicz is the casting associate.
