Playbill Inc. has named Jolie Schaffzin publisher of Playbill magazine. A 27-year veteran of the theatrical publication, she is the first woman to hold the prestigious role.
Following a career at advertising agencies and sales roles at both Condé Nast and Hearst, Schaffzin initially joined Playbill as the director of fashion and beauty advertising, and was later promoted to associate publisher. Over the decades, she has built deep relationships across the advertising and theatre industries, championing the power of storytelling both on stage and in print.
A passionate, lifelong theatregoer, Schaffzin also supports organizations that strengthen the arts community, including Broadway Cares and the Dramatists Guild Foundation. She serves on the Advisory Committee of the American Theatre Wing.
Playbill Chairman and CEO Philip S. Birsh said in a statement, “The entire Playbill family is very proud of our remarkable colleague and friend, Jolie Schaffzin. She is an extraordinary professional and has earned our admiration and unabashed love. She will be an especially impactful leader of our newer generation of Playbill personnel. Bravo, Jolie!”
Schaffzin's appointment arrives during the 140th anniversary of Playbill and at a time when Broadway is on track to break records during a powerful moment for the industry.
