Theatregoers will have one extra week to see John Leguizamo's latest play, The Other Americans. The show will begin its Off-Broadway premiere at The Public Theater's Anspacher Theater September 11 ahead of a September 25 opening night. The run was scheduled to continue through October 12, but that's now been extended to October 19.
Leguizamo is starring as Nelson Castro, a Colombian-American laundromat owner in Queens grappling with a failing business and buried secrets. The cast also features Rosa Evangelina Arredondo as Norma, Sarah Nina Hayon as Veronica, Rebecca Jimenez as Toni, Trey Santiago-Hudson as Nick, Bradley James Tejeda as Eddie, and Luna Lauren Velez as Patti. Understudies Kimberli Flores, Jaime José Hernández, and Juan Francisco Villa round out the company. Ruben Santiago-Hudson is directing.
The Public is presenting the play in association with Washington, D.C.'s Arena Stage, where the piece premiered. The complete cast (with the exception of Flores and Hernández) are reprising their performances from that run.
The production will feature scenic design by Arnulfo Maldonado, costume design by Kara Harmon, lighting design by Jen Schriever, sound design by Justin Ellington, hair and wig design by Anika Seitu, prop management by Natalie Carney, fight direction by Thomas Schall, choreography by Lorna Ventura, and dramaturgy by Jack Phillips Moore. James Latus will serve as production stage manager with Ana Muñoz as stage manager.
