Fresh off winning the 2022 Best Leading Actress Tony Award for her performance in Paradise Square, Joaquina Kalukango has set a Broadway return in the revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods, playing the St. James Theatre through January 8. Kalukango will succeed Tony winner Patina Miller and Montego Glover, who are currently sharing the role of The Witch, beginning December 16.

Before Paradise Square, Kalukango appeared on Broadway in GodspellHoller If Ya Hear Me, and The Color Purple. She earned her first Tony nomination in 2020 for her performance in the first Broadway bow of Jeremy O. Harris' Slave Play.

Along with Miller and Glover, the Broadway company of Into the Woods currently includes Stephanie J. Block as the Baker’s Wife, Brian d’Arcy James as the Baker, Krysta Rodriguez as Cinderella (Denée Benton is Cinderella starting November 21), Gavin Creel as the Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince, Andy Karl as Rapunzel’s Prince (Joshua Henry returns November 25), Katy Geraghty as Little Red Ridinghood, Jim Stanek as the Steward, Ann Harada as Jack’s Mother, Cole Thompson as Jack, and Alysia Velez as Rapunzel.

The production also features Ta’Nika Gibson, Annie Golden, Albert Guerzon, Brooke Ishibashi, Kennedy Kanagawa, David Patrick Kelly, Nancy Opel, Delphi Borich, Felicia Curry, Jason Forbach, Alex Joseph Grayson, Cameron Johnson, Paul Kreppel, Mary Kate Moore, Diane Phelan, and Lucia Spina.

Into the Woods is directed by Lear deBessonet with music direction by Rob Berman and choreography by Lorin Latarro

With a book by Lapine and a score by Sondheim, Into the Woods combines the fairy-tale stories of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and more, ultimately going beyond "ever after" to explore what happens next.

The Into the Woods creative team includes scenic designer David Rockwell; costume designer Andrea Hood; lighting designer Tyler Micoleau; sound designer Scott Lehrer, co-designing with Alex Neumann; puppet designer James Ortiz; and hair and makeup designer Cookie Jordan. Casting is by The Telsey Office's Craig Burns, and Cody Renard Richard serves as production supervisor. Justin Scribner is production stage manager, and music coordination is by Seymour Red Press and Kimberlee Wertz.

Following a two-week run at New York City Center in May, the revival transferred to Broadway's St. James Theatre, where it opened July 10, after beginning previews June 28.
