JJ Niemann, who plays Charles Lee in the Broadway production of Hamilton, has been cast as charming con artist Frank Abagnale Jr. in the Marriott Theatre's upcoming production of Catch Me If You Can.

Directed by Jessica Fisch with choreography by Deidre Goodwin and music direction by Ryan T. Nelson, the musical will begin previews August 27 prior to an official opening September 3 at the Illinois venue. Performances will continue through October 19.

The cast will also feature Nathaniel Stampley (Cats, The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess) as Agent Carl HanrattyMariah Lyttle (The Wiz, Bad Cinderella) as Brenda Strong, and Jessie Fisher (A Beautiful Noise, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) as Paula Abagnale plus Sean Fortunato as Frank Abagnale Sr., Justin Albinder as Agent Dollar, Alex Goodrich as Agent Cod, Karl Hamilton as Agent Branton, Alexis J Roston as Carol Strong, and James Earl Jones II as Roger Strong.

The ensemble is set to include Emma Grace Bailey, Brian Bandura, Katie Scarlett Brunson, Sophie Liu David, Nichole Forde, Ron King, Emma Ogea, Alexandra Palkovic, Tommy Rivera-Vega, and Lucas Thompson with understudies Ivan Bracy Jr., Anna Louise Bramlett, Morgan DiFonzo, Albert Sterner, and Elaine Watson.

With a book by Terrence McNally and a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott WittmanCatch Me If You Can follows con man Frank Abagnale Jr., who posed as an airline pilot, a lawyer, and a doctor, and then escaped police custody, all before he turned 22. When Frank's lies catch the attention of an FBI agent, he is pursued across the globe to pay for his crimes.

Based on the autobiography by Frank Abagnale, Jr. and Stan Redding and the 2002 film, the stage adaptation of Catch Me If You Can opened on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre April 10, 2011. The production, directed by Jack O’Brien with choreography by Jerry Mitchell, played 32 previews and 166 performances before closing September 4, 2011. The musical earned four Tony Award nominations with Norbert Leo Butz winning Best Actor in a Musical for his performance as Agent Carl Hanratty.

“I'm excited to bring Catch Me If You Can to the Chicagoland area with a truly show-stopping cast,” said director Fisch in a statement. “Our production will be a celebration of what makes live musical theatre so indispensable: gorgeous singing, heart-stopping dancing, and compelling storytelling-all in a stylish, fizzy container. Woven into this unbelievable true tale of high-flying and hijinks is a surprisingly moving story about families: the imperfect ones we’re born with, the aspirational ones we forge, and the ones that sneak up on you…maybe with an FBI badge and a gun.”

The creative team also includes associate choreographer Shanna VanDerwerker, scenic designers Andrew Boyce and Lauren Nichols, costume designer Sully Ratke, video/projection designer Anthony Churchill, lighting designer Jesse Klug, sound designer Michael Daly, props designers Rae Watson and Sally Zack, wig, hair, and makeup designer Miguel A. Armstrong, assistant director Sunnie Eraso, intimacy director Katie Johannigman, fight choreographer David Blixt, and stage manager Christine D. Freeburg.
