Jamie Jackson will star in the world premiere of Murdoch: The Final Interview, a new American play by an unnamed source, to run Off-Broadway this fall.
Directed by Christopher Scott, performances will begin at Theater555 September 12 prior to an official opening September 28. The limited engagement is currently scheduled through December 28.
The play follows controversial media magnate Rupert Murdoch as he faces the cameras, a live audience, and a mysterious interviewer as he attempts to secure his legacy. Over 90 minutes, Murdoch encounters family members, revisits Presidents, wrangles with newspaper editors, collides with Fox News creator Roger Ailes, and more.
“The script of Murdoch: The Final Interview came to me in a very strange way,” says producer Eric Krebs in a statement. “It was left at the door of Theater555 overnight in a plain manila envelope addressed to me. I looked inside and found a script with a note that said that the playwright wanted to remain anonymous, but that I was welcome to produce the play if I so desired. I thought immediately of 'Deep Throat,' the mysterious incident that took place during the Nixon years. So, of course, I set to work reading the play, and discovered a marvelous jigsaw of a drama. And here we are.... I think the world of politics and of human nature will both be explored in a thrilling manner.”
On Broadway Jackson has been seen in Sweeney Todd, Wicked, Doctor Zhivago, Last Ship, and Soul Doctor. His screen credits include TV's The Loudest Voice, FBI: Most Wanted, The Good Fight, Blue Bloods, NCIS: New Orleans, and Madam Secretary as well as the films The Greatest Showman, Diverge, The Kitchen, Measure of Revenge, Rapid Eye Movement, and Jump.
The production will also have set design by Peter R. Feuchtwanger, lighting design by Joan Racho-Jansen, audio visual design by Andy Evan Cohen, sound design by Josh Weidenbaum, and music by composer SoHee Youn. The production stage manager is Brian Westmoreland.
