Off-Broadway’s Irish Repertory Theatre will present a live adaptation of the 1946 radio play It’s a Wonderful Life this holiday season. Performances will begin November 29 prior to an official opening December 3. The limited engagement is scheduled to run through December 31.
The play is set in a radio station in the 1940s and features six actors (plus a live sound FX artist) participating in an audio broadcast of the classic film.
It's a Wonderful Life has had a history of playing the airwaves following the film's premiere, beginning with two 1947 broadcasts. Myriad stage adaptations of the broadcast have become holiday traditions for theatre companies throughout the country.
Irish Rep Artistic Director Charlotte Moore helms the staging, having first directed the title at the company in 2012. The play features an adapted script by Anthony Palermo.
Casting and creative team will be announced at a later date.
