Los Angeles’ Geffen Playhouse has revealed the three plays that will complete its 2017–18 season: the West Coast premieres of Joshua Harmon’s Broadway comedy Significant Other and Martyna Majok’s Off-Broadway hit Ironbound, along with Glen Berger’s acclaimed play Underneath the Lintel.
As previously reported, the Geffen lineup also includes the world premiere of Chasing Mem’ries: A Different Kind of Musical, written and directed by Joshua Ravetch, with pre-existing songs from Alan and Marilyn Bergman, and starring Tyne Daly and Robert Forster. Daly stars as a woman not quite ready to let go of the life she’s loved and the love of her life.
Also slated for the new season is Halley Feiffer’s comedy, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center of New York City; the Los Angeles premiere of Dominique Morisseau’s Skeleton Crew, about factory workers in Detroit during the 2008 recession; the West Coast premiere of Sarah Jones’ monologue play about the sex industry, Sell/Buy/Date; and Neil LaBute’s The Way We Get By—his seventh play at the Geffen. All four shows played acclaimed Off-Broadway engagements.
“In their own ways, each of these stories asks questions about whom and how we love,” commented outgoing artistic director of the Geffen Playhouse Randall Arney in an earlier press statement. “In a time when the world seems laser-focused on that which divides us, what better way to examine the human condition than through the ties that bind?”
