The Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, honored Tony-winning composer John Kander with the company’s ninth Stephen Sondheim Award March 19.

Signature Theatre inaugurated The Stephen Sondheim Award in 2009; the honor is given to an individual for their contributions to American musical theatre along with interpreting, supporting, or collaborating on works by Sondheim.

The 2018 award was presented at a gala at the Embassy of Italy; the evening benefited Signature’s artistic, education, and community programs.
