It's gift-giving time, and Broadway shows must be on everyone's list. For the week ending December 21, grosses were up by nearly 8% from the previous week, bringing in $47,437,512 for the 36 currently running productions. That figure also represents a more than 8% increase from this time last season.
Leading the top grossers in the week before Christmas were Harry Potter and the Cursed Child—which has been raking in the bucks since Tom Felton joined the company to reprise his film role of Draco Malfoy—and the international hit musical Wicked. Both productions broke the $3 million mark, taking in, respectively, $3,038,963 and $3,001,721.
Others in the top five included the Pulitzer Prize-winning Hamilton ($2,983,979), the record-breaking The Lion King ($2,754,103), and the hit revival of Mamma Mia! ($2,085,382). The latter is actually the highest-grossing week for the entire Broadway history of the ABBA-scored musical (which concludes its limited engagement February 1, 2026, at the Winter Garden).

Attendance was also up by over 5% during the holiday week. A total of 317,531 theatregoers enjoyed a Broadway production, and paid an average admission of $149.39 (up $3.57 from the week prior).
Last week marked the final performances of Art ($1,590,503, up $47,084 from the previous week), Little Bear Bridge Road ($553,955, up $120,160), and The Queen of Versailles ($630,613, down $161,577) as well as the first seven previews of the Tracy Letts drama Bug, co-starring The Gilded Age's Carrie Coon and Namir Smallwood (Pass Over). The eagerly awaited Manhattan Theatre Club production will officially open January 8, 2026, at the Samuel J. Friedman.
Of the 36 shows playing last week, 24 took in over $1 million each while nearly all productions (30, in fact) played to 90% or more capacity.
