TV and stage actor Evan Todd currently stars on Broadway in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical as Gerry Goffin, King’s first husband and writing partner. Follow Todd through his full day on July 8, going from Beautiful to the 19th annual dog and cat adoption event, Broadway Barks, and back.
Follow him through his day below:
Picked up my Bar3 outfit from Macy's, which is hanging in my dressing room. (This is a plug! Macy's gives me awesome clothes to wear and I'm shamelessly promoting them).
Change into my last costume to run on stage and give Carol a book and an apology.
Bow.
Deep bow.
More singing.
Then I run downstairs and hand off my shirt and jacket to my dresser Charlie and get my mic pack off.
The hair clips always get caught.
Bam! Outfit! Bar3! Macy's!
Ok it's way too hot outside for the jacket, I'm making a last minute call to rock the tie with the short sleeve shirt- against Jessica Keenan Wynn's advice.
I found some cast and am fitting in my dinner on the walk over. Thank you Muscle Maker Grill.
Well look at these two pretty ladies Jessica Keenan Wynn and Abby Mueller. We are gonna get some dogs adopted at Broadway Barks.
I fell in love...and so did Jessica, that's an 18 year old poodle with bows on her ears. You're welcome world.

We have about thirty minutes so they ask us to sign some posters. Look at how candid we can appear. Acting!
Sometimes when they say "there will be food at the event" what they mean is "there will be extremely unhealthy empty calories to fill up on". But Bernadette pulled through with the real food and Ben Jacoby and I got a second dinner.
We prep to go on stage. My dog is clearly the cutest of the quadruplets.
Bobby's nervous so Jessica gives him a pre-curtain pep talk.
The only thing keeping me from taking this dog home is the small fact that I'm extremely irresponsible.
More pup Press Lines. I pick my little guy up because, well look at that face!
Then there was this diva with her own private fan, parasol, and what I thought was a boa. I believe this to be Bernadette Peters' spirit animal. Bernadette's soul was split in two after her deal with the devil. The other half resides in this Chihuahua aging in dog years, which is why the other half that we see in Bernadette ages at 1/8th the speed of everyone else.
Oh wait, it wasn't a boa, that would be ridiculous....it's a Ziegfeld Follies Doggy Headdress.
We make it on stage. Look at all of those future dog owners.
I try to snap a picture but Jessica calls me out on the mic and I'm social-media-shamed on stage in front of Bernadette Peters.
30 minutes and one large iced mocha from City Kitchen later, I head to the theatre for a second show. This face is a combination of exhaustion (primarily from crossing over 42nd street) and deep sadness that apparently Time Square Minnie Mouse is not real, but in fact a 50 year old woman.
Co-founded by three-time Tony recipient Peters and the late Mary Tyler Moore, Broadway Barks features celebrities of the Great White Way helping to find homes for animals in need from 27 participating NYC-area shelters. The event is produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
