Rent is broadcast nationally January 27 at 8pm EST, 7pm CST, and 8pm PST on FOX. The all-star cast includes Vanessa Hudgens (Gigi) as Maureen, Jordan Fisher (Hamilton) as Mark, Tinashe as Mimi, Kiersey Clemons as Joanne, Brennin Hunt as Roger, Mario as Bennie, Valentina as Angel, and Brandon Victor Dixon (Hamilton, Shuffle Along) as Collins.
Keala Settle (Les Misérables, Waitress) leads an ensemble comprising J. Elaine Marcos (Priscilla, Queen of the Desert), Matt Saldivar, Jennifer Leigh Warren (Little Shop of Horrors), Alton Fitzgerald White (The Lion King, The Color Purple), Bryce Ryness (Matilda), Emerson Collins, and Debra Cardona.
The 1996 rock musical, loosely inspired by Puccini' sLa Bohème, launched the careers of several stage and screen favorites, including Idina Menzel, plus Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, Taye Diggs, Jesse L. Martin, and Daphne Rubin-Vega.
Rent's original director Michael Greif is back to direct the new live TV production, leading a team that includes live camera director Alex Rudzinski, choreographer by Sonya Tayeh, production designer Jason Sherwood, costume designer Angela Wendt, lighting designer Al Gurdon, and music director-producer Stephen Oremus. Casting is by Tiffany Little Canfield and Bernie Telsey of Telsey + Company.
