After Fox's presentation of Rent aired January 27, Sony Masterworks Broadway released the digital soundtrack of the television event February 1.
Featuring music from the late Jonathan Larson's Tony– and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, the album features the new cast members with a live orchestra. The company includes Kiersey Clemons as Joanne Jefferson, Emmy nominee and Tony Award nominee Brandon Victor Dixon as Tom Collins, Jordan Fisher as Mark Cohen, Vanessa Hudgens as Maureen Johnson, Brennin Hunt as Roger Davis, Mario as Benjamin Coffin III, Tinashe as Mimi Marquez, and Valentina as Angel Dumont Schunard.
Additionally, Tony nominee Keala Settle performed the iconic solo from “Seasons of Love” and joined the ensemble in the live musical.
Following the February 1 digital release, a two-disc CD will hit shelves March 1 (currently available for pre-order). The recording features 31 vocal artists and a 23-piece orchestra with new orchestrations and arrangements by Tony winner Stephen Oremus (Kinky Boots, The Book of Mormon).
The event, helmed by Rent’s original director Michael Greif and television director Alex Rudzinksi was broadcast from Fox Studios in Los Angeles (though, ultimately, only a portion was aired live). Rent is executive produced by Marc Platt and the Larson estate, as well as Adam Siegel, Julie Larson, Allan Larson and Revolution Studios’ Vince Totino, Scott Hemming and Marla Levine.
