Elton John and Tim Rice are working on a new song for Beyoncé to sing in the live-action remake of The Lion King, according to UK newspaper The Sun. John told the publication that they were also working on a new end credits song, and that four of the film's original tracks would be featured in the remake: “Can You Feel The Love Tonight,” “Hakuna Matata,” “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King,” and “Circle of Life.”
The Lion King, which will be directed by Jon Favreau, is scheduled to be released in summer 2019. The Disney remake of the hit 1994 film will be a combination of CGI and live action, similar to The Jungle Book remake, also directed by Favreau. Jeff Nathanson is penning the screenplay.The previously announced cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Keegan Michael-Key as Kamari, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, John Oliver as Zazu, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, Billy Eichner as Timon, John Kani as Rafiki, Eric André as Azizi, Florence Kasumba as Shenzi, JD McCrary as Young Simba, and Shahadi Wright Joseph (an alum Broadway's The Lion King) as Young Nala.
The multi-Tony Award-winning musical The Lion King, directed by Tony winner Julie Taymor, continues at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway.
