One Year Lease Theater Company presents the premiere of Ellen McLaughlin’s Kissing the Floor, a radical retelling of Antigone, beginning February 23 at Off-Broadway's Theatre Row (Theatre Four).
Directed by Ianthe Demos, with movement direction by Natalie Lomonte, performances will continue through March 12. Opening night is scheduled for February 25.
The cast features Grammy and Obie winner Rinde Eckert, Leon Ingulsrud, Christina Bennett Lind, and Akyiaa Wilson.
Set in Depression-era America, the play investigates the relationships among a set of siblings, all survivors of their family’s agonized, infamous legacy.
The production team includes set designer James Hunting, lighting designer Driscoll Otto, sound designer Brendan Aanes, costume designer Kenisha Kelly, production stage manager Vanessa Rebeil, assistant director Nadja Leonhard-Hooper, assistant stage manager Melissa Sparks, and production manager Omri Bareket.
McLaughlin’s plays include Tongue of a Bird, Iphigenia and Other Daughters, Trojan Women, Helen, The Persians, Penelope, Ajax in Iraq, Pericles, Septimus and Clarissa, Blood Moon, and The Oresteia. As an actor, she is best known for originating the part of the Angel in Tony Kushner’s Angels in America.
