Darren Day, who shot to fame in 1993 playing the title role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the London Palladium, will join the 2023-2024 U.K. tour of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie this fall.
Day will step into the roles of Hugo/Loco Chanelle November 21–December 30, playing Blackpool Winter Gardens, Venue Cymru in Llandudno, and a three-week holiday season at Oxford New Theatre.
Day said in a statement, “I can’t wait to step into Loco Chanelle’s heels and join the brilliantly talented cast of the U.K. tour of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. It’s a wonderfully uplifting show filled with great music and humor and has a beautiful message at its heart. I’m thrilled to be part of it.”
The production also announced that Harriet Payne will join the tour as Miss Hedge in Llandudno and Oxford; she originated the role of Bex in Sheffield and at the Apollo and covered the role of Miss Hedge in the West End and Los Angeles.
The company is led by Ivano Turco (Get Up, Stand Up!; Cinderella) as Jamie New, Rebecca McKinnis (Dear Evan Hansen, We Will Rock You) as Margaret New, Shobna Gulati (The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, Coronation Street) as Ray, and Talia Palamathanan (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie tour and film) as Pritti.
The musical also stars John Partridge as Hugo/Loco Chanelle (September 7–November 19 and January 8–March 23, 2024), Kevin Clifton as Hugo/Loco Chanelle (March 25–July 15), Hayley Tamaddon as Miss Hedge (September 7–November 26), Giovanna Fletcher as Miss Hedge (January 8–March 23), and Sam Bailey as Miss Hedge (March 25-July 15).
Completing the cast for the 2023-2024 U.K. tour are KY Kelly (Anthony Gyde) as Laika Virgin, Garry Lee as Sandra Bollock, David McNair as Tray Sophisticay, Akshay St. Clair as Dad, Jordan Ricketts as Dean, Liv Ashman as Vicki, Rhiannon Bacchus as Fatimah, Geoff Berrisford as Sayid, Jessica Daugirda as Bex, Finton Flynn as Young Loco Chanelle/Jamie New cover, Annabelle Laing as Becca, Luca Moscardini as Levi, Joshian Omana as Cy, Thomas Walton as Mickey, Takayiah Bailey as Swing, and Georgina Hagen as the understudy for Margaret/Ray/Miss Hedge.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie features music by Dan Gillespie Sells and a book and lyrics by Tom MacRae from an idea by Jonathan Butterell. The production is directed by Matt Ryan, based on original direction by Butterell, with design by Anna Fleischle, choreography by Kate Prince, lighting design by Lucy Carter, sound design by Paul Groothuis, casting by Will Burton, and musical supervision by Theo Jamieson.
