Broadway News Darren Criss, Helen J. Shen Announce Final Performances in Maybe Happy Ending

The next full-time Helperbots will be announced at a later date.

Stars Darren Criss and Helen J. Shen have announced their final performances in the Tony-winning Best Musical Maybe Happy Ending.

Shen will depart the production first, playing her final performance as Claire February 15. The role will then be played by current standby Hannah Kevitt February 17–April 2, followed by current standby Claire Kwon April 3–May 17.

Criss, who won a Tony for the role, will play his final performance as Oliver May 17. 

A casting announcement for the next full-time Helperbots will be made at a later date.

Original cast members Dez Duron and Marcus Choi will continue with the production, as will Oliver Steven Huynh and Christopher James Tamayo, with Daniel May continuing as the standby for James and Gil.

The musical opened at the Belasco November 12, 2024. The work, featuring a Tony-winning book and score by Hue Park and Will Aronson, is the most Tony-winning show of last season, with six prizes. The show was also one of three productions to be the most-nominated of the season, with nods in 10 categories. See the full list of 2025 Tony winners here.

Tony winner Criss and Shen star as, respectively, Claire and Oliver, South Korea-based Helperbots that have been deemed obsolete. The pair form an unlikely bond, setting off a surprising and romantic adventure. The cast also features Duron and Choi, along with understudies Steven Huynh, Hannah Kevitt, Daniel May, Claire Kwon, and Christopher James Tamayo. Casting is by Telsey & Co's Craig Burns.

Two-time Tony winner Michael Arden directs, leading a creative team that also includes includes scenic and additional video designer Dane Laffrey, costume designer Clint Ramos, lighting designer Ben Stanton, sound designer Peter Hylenski, video designer George Reeve, music supervisor Deborah Abramson, and music director John Yun.
