Michael R. Jackson's Tony- and Pulitzer-winning A Strange Loop is joining the Concord Theatricals catalogue for licensing worldwide. The work is now available to professional theatres in North America.
With a book, music, and lyrics by Jackson, the meta musical follows Usher, a young, Black, gay theatre writer grappling with his toxic inner thoughts while trying to write a musical about a young, Black, gay theatre writer grappling with his toxic inner thoughts while trying to write a musical about... and on and on. The musical made its world premiere at Playwrights Horizons in 2019, winning Best New Musical at the 2020 Drama Desk, Off-Broadway Alliance, and New York Drama Critic's Circle Awards, along with the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. A Broadway transfer followed in 2022 following a pre-Broadway run at Washington, D.C.'s Woolly Mammoth Theatre. The musical took Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical (for Jackson) at the 2022 Tony Awards.
A West End debut for the work was recently announced, with performances slated to begin in June at the Barbican Theatre.
