The Pet Shop Boys musical Closer to Heaven at the Arts Theatre has announced it will close on Oct. 13. Written by Jonathan Harvey, who had a success with his play Beautiful Thing and writes the popular television comedy "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme," the music and lyrics are by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, otherwise known as Pet Shop Boys, who have sold over 28 million albums worldwide.
Closer to Heaven is the story of Dave, a young Irish boy seeking the big time in London. Set amid hedonistic gay culture, straight Dave learns that things are not as straightforward as they seem.
Closer to Heaven opened to mixed reviews on May 31. Although the production was recently extended until Feb. 2, 2002, the final decision has been made to close on Oct. 13.
