The New York premiere of Jason Odell Williams’ Church & State will play its final performance Off-Broadway June 4, producers announced. The political comedy began an open-ended engagement at New World Stages March 3 following a critically acclaimed run in Los Angeles.
Directed by Markus Potter, Church & State officially opened March 20. At the time of closing, it will have played 29 previews and 81 regular performances.
The play sheds light on how religion, guns, and social media influence politics and politicians.
“I'm so proud of the entire Church & State team and what we accomplished here, especially our partnerships with Sandy Hook Promise and other charitable organizations,” commented producer Charlotte Cohn in a press statement. “The people we reached and the lives this play has touched are immeasurable and we look forward to a long and prosperous life in the regions, as well as at school and universities across the country.”
The current cast includes Rob Nagle, Nadia Bowers, Christa Scott-Reed, and Jonathan Louis Dent. Beginning May 26, Megan Sikora replaces Bowers, and on May 29 Andy Talen replaces Dent.
