With book, music, and lyrics by Willson, based on a story by Willson and Franklin Lacey, The Music Man follows salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize. Songs include “My White Knight,” “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “Goodnight Ladies,” and “Til There Was You.”
Throughout the run, TBTS is asking audiences to bring unwanted musical instruments that will be donated to Rhode Island Rhythm and Blues Preservation Society’s Instruments for Children Scholarship Program. The program donates the instruments to schools who have students who may not be able to participate in music programs without this help.
The creative team also includes music director Eddie Guttman, scenic designer Kyle Dixon, costume designer Jeff Hendry, lighting designer Jose Santiago, sound designer Danny Erdberg, wig and hair designer Michael Dates, production stage manager Kate L. Ferdinandi, assistant stage manager Sara Sheets, and associate director Adolpho Blaire.
The Music Man is produced for Theatre By The Sea by Bill Hanney, owner-producer; Kevin P. Hill, producing artistic director; and Thom Warren, associate producer.
