Carmello will join the New York company of Mamma Mia! Oct. 20, according to her spokesperson. Carmello will replace Dee Hoty as Donna Sheridan, the role created on Broadway by Tony nominee Louise Pitre.

Mamma Mia!, it seems, will undergo several cast changes this fall. Liz McCartney, who starred as Big Sue in the Broadway company of Taboo, will begin a stint as Rosie in the New York company of Mamma Mia! that same day. And, Judy McLane, who received a Drama Desk Award nomination this past season for her performance as Vienna in Off Broadway's Johnny Guitar, will also join the Mamma cast at the same time.

The new company is set to begin rehearsals Sept. 20.

Carolee Carmello received a Drama Desk Award and a Tony nomination for her performance in Lincoln Center’s Parade. She has also starred on Broadway in Urinetown; Kiss Me, Kate; The Scarlet Pimpernel; 1776; City of Angels; and Falsettos. Carmello received an Obie Award for her work in the Off-Broadway musical Hello Again, and her other Off Broadway credits include Elegies, A Class Act, john and jen, Das Barbecü, I Can Get It for You Wholesale and The Vagina Monologues.

The cast of Mamma Mia! at the Winter Garden currently features Dee Hoty as Donna Sheridan, Jenny Fellner as Sophie Sheridan, Rebecca Kasper as Ali, Keisha T. Fraser as Lisa, Tamara Bernier as Tanya, Harriett D. Foy as Rosie, Joe Machota as Sky, Jason Weston as Pepper, Michael Benjamin Washington as Eddie, Michael Winther as Harry Bright, Adam LeFevre as Bill Austin, John Hillner as Sam Carmichael and Brent Black as Father Alexandrios.
