The Carol Burnett 50th Anniversary Special, celebrating the award-winning series The Carol Burnett Show, is rebroadcast December 27 at 8 PM ET on CBS.
Filmed on the show's original soundstage, Burnett reminisces about her favorite sketches, Q&As with the studio audience, guest stars, her memorable wardrobe and bloopers, and more.
Original cast members Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner and costume designer Bob Mackie are joined by Bernadette Peters (who appeared on numerous episodes of the variety show), Kristin Chenoweth, Jim Carrey, Stephen Colbert, Harry Connick Jr., Bill Hader, Jay Leno, Jane Lynch, Maya Rudolph, and Martin Short, who discuss how the revolutionary series paved the way for their careers. Peters and Chenoweth both perform.
Burnett received a Special Tony Award in 1969 for her Contributions to the Theatre. She was nominated for a Tony for her Once Upon a Mattress performance and again in 1996 for Moon Over Buffalo. With her late daughter Carrie Hamilton, Burnett wrote the 2002 Broadway comedy-drama Hollywood Arms, which was directed by Harold Prince.
