The name on everybody's lips is gonna be — Petra?
Swedish star Petra Nielsen steps into the role of Roxie Hart in the Tony Award-winning Broadway smash, Chicago, at the Shubert Theatre Oct. 8.
Nana Visitor has been the most recent merry murderess as Roxie in the revival of the John Kander-Fred Ebb-Bob Fosse musical about getting away with murder in the jazz-and-liquor-soaked Windy City. Nielsen starred as Roxie Hart in the Swedish production of Chicago, where she won a Golden Mask Award. She later starred in the London West End production. Her past roles in her native Sweden include Rizzo in Grease, Carmen Diaz in Fame, Sally Bowles in Cabaret, Anita in West Side Story and Cassie in A Chorus Line. Her TV credits include the Swedish drama, Anna Holt, in which she starred as Detective Anna Holt. This marks Nielsen's Broadway debut.
Chicago, directed by Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Ann Reinking in the style of Fosse, also stars Deidre Goodwin, Chuck Cooper, P.J. Benjamin, Marcia Lewis Bryan and R. Bean.
The Shubert Theatre is at 225 W. 44th St. For tickets, call (212) 239 6200.
