Los Angeles’ Geffen Playhouse has announced a new partnership with online theatre streaming service BroadwayHD. The Geffen’s current production of Eugene O’Neill’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Long Day’s Journey Into Night, starring Jane Kaczmarek and Alfred Molina, will be the first production captured live under the partnership, marking BroadwayHD’s first live stream from a U.S. theatre outside of New York City.
Long Day’s Journey Into Night will stream live March 11 at 10 PM EST / 7 PM PST, followed by a 10-day on-demand encore. BroadwayHD subscribers can watch the live capture on BroadwayHD.com, Chromecast, Apple TV or Roku, and the service's iOS and Android apps.
The live stream will be directed by Emmy winner David Horn, executive producer of PBS’ Great Performances series. Horn also directed the BroadwayHD live streams of She Loves Me and Holiday Inn with Roundabout Theatre Company.
Following the live event, the filmed production will also be available to view in select high schools and colleges internationally.
“Geffen Playhouse is committed to bringing world-class theatre to audiences in Los Angeles and around the world in creative and innovative ways,” commented Gil Cates, Jr., executive director of the Geffen Playhouse in a press statement. “We are excited to partner with BroadwayHD, which is not only the market leader with global reach, but also shares our philosophy of making theater accessible to audiences everywhere.”
Directed by Jeanie Hackett, Long Day’s Journey Into Night is now playing in the Gil Cates Theater at the Geffen Playhouse through March 18. The cast also includes Angela Goethals, Stephen Louis Grush, and Colin Woodell.
