Industry News Broadway Grosses Analysis: KPOP Ends Brief Run With Highest-Grossing Week, Sold-Out Houses

The musical played its final performance at Circle in the Square Theatre December 11.

Grosses on Broadway soared last week to a cumulative total of $37.2 million between 35 shows, a nearly 10% increase from the week prior, and just shy of matching the Thanksgiving week high.

Broadway said an early goodbye to KPOP as it played its 17th and final performance December 11. While the show was still among the lower grossers (the musical ranked 31 out of 35), fans came out to deliver the highest gross of the production's entire run at $281,757.10, beating its previous record by nearly $60,000. And, it was standing room only, with 100.29% of seats filled over the entire week.

The week's biggest winners were no surprise, with the Hugh Jackman- and Sutton Foster-led The Music Man leading the pack with a staggering $3.39 million, a near match of the revival's $3.84 million all-time high. The Phantom of the Opera broke the $2 million mark for the second time since announcing its historic 35-year run will come to a close in 2023—the West End transplant has been making a victory lap at the box office ever since.
