Broadway News Brian D'Arcy James and Andy Karl Will Return to Broadway's Into the Woods

Casting for the popular revival has been announced through November 20.

The celebrated Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woodsset to run through January 8, 2023, at the St. James Theatre, has announced casting through November 20.

Brian D'Arcy James, who originated the role of the Baker for the run, will return to the production October 25, replacing current Baker Sebastian Arcelus. Andy Karl, who previously stepped in for Gavin Creel as the Wolf and Cinderella's Prince, will succeed Joshua Henry as Rapunzel's Prince beginning October 11. 

The production, directed by Lear deBessonet, currently stars Stephanie J. Block as the Baker's Wife; Montego Glover and Patina Miller sharing the role of The Witch; Krysta Rodriguez as Cinderella; Katy Geraghty as Little Red Ridinghood; Jim Stanek as the Steward; Cole Thompson as Jack; and Alysia Velez as Rapunzel.

Into the Woods also currently features Ta’Nika Gibson, Annie Golden, Albert Guerzon, Brooke Ishibashi, Kennedy Kanagawa, David Patrick Kelly, Nancy Opel, , Delphi Borich, Felicia Curry, Jason Forbach, Alex Joseph Grayson, Cameron Johnson, Paul Kreppel, Mary Kate Moore, Diane Phelan, and Lucia Spina. As previously reported, Ann Harada, reprising her performance from New York City Center, will take over the role of Jack's Mother from Aymee Garcia beginning September 27.

Casting through January 8 is to be announced.

With a book by James Lapine and a score by Stephen Sondheim, Into the Woods combines the fairy-tale stories of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and more, ultimately going beyond "ever after" to explore what happens next.

The Into the Woods creative team includes music director Rob Berman; choreographer Lorin Latarro; scenic designer David Rockwell; costume designer Andrea Hood; lighting designer Tyler Micoloeau; sound designer Scott Lehrer, co-designing with Alex Neumann; puppet designer James Ortiz; and hair and makeup designer Cookie Jordan. Casting is by The Telsey Office's Craig Burns, and Cody Renard Richard serves as production supervisor. Justin Scribner is production stage manager, and music coordination is by Seymour Red Press and Kimberlee Wertz.

Following a two-week run at New York City Center in May, the revival transferred to Broadway's St. James Theatre, where it opened July 10, after beginning previews June 28.
