The Broadway musical Beautiful: The Carole King Musical plays its 1,000th performance at the June 15 matinee.
The cast is scheduled to be on hand at the curtain call to accept a mayoral proclamation from the New York City Commissioner of Media and Entertainment, Julie Menin, and to cut a celebratory cake.
Beautiful opened on Broadway January 12, 2014, at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, where it holds the record for the playhouse's longest-running show. Original leading lady Jessie Mueller, now on Broadway in Waitress, won a Tony for her performance as King.
The musical, which celebrates the life, career and music of pop songwriter King, recently surpassed the original Broadway runs of The Will Rogers Follies (981performances), Sunset Boulevard (977), Urinetown (965), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (964) and The Odd Couple (966).
