Off-Broadway's Atlantic Theater Companies has revealed its 2025 Judith Champion Launch Commissions, which offer early-career playwrights support for writing a new play. This year's commissions are going to Zachariah Ezer, Keiko Green, and Emma Watkins.
Run by Atlantic Literary Manager Kalina Ko, the program has previously commissioned Paola Lázaro, Amy Staats, Abby Rosebrock, Tori Sampson, Sanaz Toossi, Lily Houghton, and Brian Otaño over its 10 previous iterations. Lázaro, Staats, and Toossi have all gone on to have works produced at Atlantic, along with Rosebrock, whose Lowcountry was originally a Champion commission and was part of the company's 2024-2025 season.
"We are excited about our next round of Judith Champion Launch commissioned artists," says Artistic Director Neil Pepe. "Zachariah, Keiko, and Emma each have distinct and original voices, and we can't wait to see what they write for Atlantic. We are grateful to Judith Champion's legacy for making these commissions possible."
