Ars Nova has announced the cohort of resident artists for its 2024-2025 season, as well as a lineup of additional programming for the fall.
The Off-Broadway company's residency programs include the Vision Residency, which allows artists to partner with Ars Nova's Artistic Team to curate a season of programming. The 2023 Vision Resident Artists are Showgasm host Brittany Carney and Dominique Rider.
Play Group, a two-year residency at Ars Nova, allows playwrights to share work and build community with their peers. The program culminates in readings of residents' new work. The current members include Lucas Baisch, Lyndsey Bourne, Charlie Oh, Nadira Simone, and reid tang.
Ars Nova's Makers Lab residency is individually tailored for creators working between genres, and allows participants to develop the first draft of a new project over the course of a season. The 2024 Makers Lab Resident Artists are Tislarm Bouie and IMPRESS, and Kate Eberstadt and Molly Rose Heller.
The fourth residency Ars Nova offers is the Comedy Artist Makers' Program (CAMP), which provides a group of theatrical comedy creators with peer support and artistic mentorship as they develop an original comedy show over the course of the season. Participants meet weekly to share their work and participate in feedback sessions facilitated by co-directors Mahayla Laurence and Matt Gehring, and also receive opportunities to perform on the Ars Nova stage throughout the season. The 2024-2025 CAMP resident artists will be announced in November.
Ars Nova also commissions projects throughout its season. Commissioned work from On The Rocks Theatre Co., or Christopher Ford and Dakota Rose, with support from Tow Playwrights-in-Residence; and Brandon Kyle Goodman will be produced in 2024-2025. Artists currently under commission include Kevin Armento and Sammy Miller, with support from the Stephen Siderow Fund for New Musicals; Manik Choksi, with support from the New York state Council on the Arts; and Deepali Gupta, Antoinette Chinonye Nwandu, River L. Ramirez, Ray Yamanouchi, and Zack Zadek, with support from Jill Furman Productions.
Additional programming will take place both at Ars Nova's original home at 511 W 54th St. and online on its digital platform, Ars Nova Supra. In-person events will include Softee's Pop Odyssey November 14; Billy & The Situation, featuring Jenny Gorelick and Gabby Bryan, November 21; The Lesson, a new musical by Avi Amon, Nolan Doran, and Ty Defoe, December 4; and the return of Showgasm, hosted by Brittany Carney, December 5.
