Conceived, written and directed by Dane Whitlock with choreography by Kim Hale, the cast features Carey Peters, Jennifer Blake and Drew Droege with Amy Procacci, Libby Baker, Rae Dawn Hadinger, Joe Donohoe, Brad Griffith and Matthew Herrmann. Loosely based on Judy Blume's popular coming-of-age novel, this musical parody, press notes state, "lovingly recalls the sights, sentiments and SOUNDS of the era with such songs from the Carpenters catalog as 'Rainy Days and Mondays,' 'Close to You,' 'Top of the World' and 'We’ve Only Just Begun.' Come watch Margaret as she moves to New Jersey, falls in love with the boy next door, enters sixth grade, joins an all-girl group, obsesses about bras and sanitary belts and (finally!) becomes a woman – all while singing the hits of the Carpenters!"
Performances, which will run through Aug. 24, are Friday and Saturday evenings at 9 PM.
The Cavern Club Theatre is located downstairs at Casita Del Campo Restaurant, 1920 Hyperion Avenue, Silverlake, CA. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Online ticketing is available at www.brownpapertickets.com.
