Broadway News Appropriate Ends Broadway Run June 30

The Second Stage Theater production won the Tony for Best Revival of a Play.

The Tony-winning Second Stage Theater revival of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' Appropriate completes its third and final extension on Broadway June 30 at the Belasco Theatre. Directed by Tony nominee Lila Neugebauer, Appropriate originally opened at the Hayes Theater, where it closed March 3. Performances for the transfer began March 25.

Almost all of the original Broadway cast continued with the transfer, including Sarah Paulson, Corey Stoll, Michael Esper, Natalie Gold, Graham Campbell, Alyssa Emily Marvin, Lincoln Cohen, and Everett Sobers. Ella Beatty assumed the role of River from original cast member Elle Fanning.

Appropriate won 3 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Play, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for Sarah Paulson, and Best Lighting Design of a Play for Jane Cox.

The work centers on a white family who, while closing out the estate of their late father, discover some disturbing artifacts that force them to confront their family's past. The play was previously produced in 2014 Off-Broadway at Signature Theatre.

The Broadway run features scenic design by dots, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Jane Cox, and sound design by Will Pickens and Bray Poor. The production's fight director is UnkleDave's Fight House, the vocal coach is Kate Wilson, and the production stage manager is Barclay Stiff. Casting is by Jim Carnahan. General management is by 101 Productions, Ltd.
