Off-Broadway News Amber Ruffin Musical Bigfoot! Sets 2026 Off-Broadway Premiere

Co-written with David A. Schmoll and Kevin Sciretta, the new work will play New York City Center Stage I.

BIGFOOT!, a new musical comedy by Amber Ruffin, David A. Schmoll, and Kevin Sciretta, will premiere Off-Broadway this spring at New York City Center Stage I. 

Directed and choreographed by Danny Mefford (Kimberly Akimbo, Dear Evan Hansen), performances will begin February 11, 2026. Casting for the eight-week limited engagement, presented in association with Manhattan Theatre Club, will be announced at a later date.

Featuring lyrics by Ruffin, a book by Ruffin and Sciretta, and music by Schmoll, the new musical is set in the town of Muddirt, a glow-in-the-dark oasis that exists somewhere between a chemical dump site and a nuclear power plant. It is billed in press notes as a "larger-than-life musical tale of corrupt politicians, small town paranoia, and misunderstood youth." The musical was previously previewed with a 2024 concert performance at 54 Below, and held developmental performances at New York Stage and Film the same year.

Emmy nominee Ruffin received a Tony nomination for Best Book of a Musical for Some Like it Hot and penned additional material for the 2024 revival of The WizShe has also written and performed on many TV shows, including The Amber Ruffin Show, Detroiters, A Black Lady Sketch Show, and Drunk History.

Sciretta has been a writer, improviser, and actor in Chicago for over 20 years. As a writer, he’s worked for Second City, The Second City Network, The Onion News Network, and more. He can be heard regularly as the character Dripfang on the podcast Hello From the Magic Tavern.

Schmoll has served as musical director for The Second City and Boom Chicago and composed and produced music for NBC, Peacock, TLC, Broadway Video, AOK Digital, and FOX ADHD.

BIGFOOT! is produced by Benson Drive Productions (George Strus, CEO) in association with Manhattan Theatre Club. Evan Bernardin Productions will serve as general manager. Casting is by Jason Thinger.
