The Lost Boys
This one is for the vampire fans. Based on the cult-classic Warner Bros. film, The Lost Boys: A New Musical will begin previews at the Palace Theatre March 27, ahead of an official opening night April 26. Directed by Tony Award winner Michael Arden (Maybe Happy Ending), the new musical centers on a mother and her two teenage sons as they move to town in desperate need of a fresh start. They soon uncover the darker side of this sunny coastal community. While Lucy tries to piece her family’s life back together, Michael keeps pulling away in search of belonging. As he finds connection with a local rock band and its charismatic leader, his younger brother Sam comes face-to-face with a terrifying reality: When night falls, Michael’s new friends are even more dangerous than they first appeared. Featuring music and lyrics by The Rescues, a book by David Hornsby and Chris Hoch, and choreography by Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher Cree Grant, this show is sure to give you ample bite for your buck.
Beaches
A new musical based on the best-selling novel that was made into the blockbuster film, Beaches, A New Musical follows two extraordinary friends through 30 years of camaraderie, laughter, sorrow and love. Vivacious, outlandish Cee Cee and beautiful, privileged Bertie meet as children and become fast friends. From pen-pals to roommates to romantic rivals, Cee Cee and Bertie’s oil-and-water friendship perseveres through even the most tragic trials. With a touching vulnerability, Beaches, A New Musical exemplifies the triumph of the human spirit and the bonds of sisterhood. Adapted from Iris Rainer Dart's novel, the musical will begin previews at the Majestic Theatre beginning March 27, and open April 22.
Schmigadoon!
Calling all theatre nerds! From Saturday Night Live’s Lorne Michaels and based on the Universal Television and Apple Original award-winning series, this delightfully hilarious musical is set to begin performances at the Nederlander Theatre April 4 ahead of an April 20 opening night. Directed by Christopher Gattelli (Death Becomes Her) with a book and Emmy winning score by Cinco Paul (who wrote the Schmigadoon! television series), this musical centers on New York doctors Josh and Melissa as they set out on a couples’ backpacking retreat to rekindle their relationship. Instead, they find themselves in Schmigadoon, a magical town that's a Golden Age musical come to life. The townspeople won’t stop singing, the bridge out leads nowhere, and the only way to escape is by finding true love—which may or may not be with each other.
The Rocky Horror Show
The legendary rock ‘n’ roll musical takes on new life as a guaranteed party at the legendary Studio 54, staged by Tony winning Oh, Mary! director Sam Pinkleton. With 51 years of continuous productions, seen by over 35 million people around the world, Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show features some of the most iconic musical show stopping classics of all time: “Dammit Janet,” “Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a Touch Me,” “Hot Patootie” and of course, “Time Warp,” the party floor-filler. The Rocky Horror Show is the story of two squeaky clean college kids—Brad and his fiancée, Janet—on their way to visit their former college professor when by a twist of fate, their car breaks down outside a mansion. They meet the charismatic Dr. Frank-n-Furter, Riff Raff, Columbia, Magenta, Eddie, and Rocky. It is an adventure they would remember, for a very long time. The revival will begin previews March 26, ahead of an April 23 opening night. The show is a limited engagement through June 21.
Cats: The Jellicle Ball
Come one, come all, the Jellicle Cats are having a ball. Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, Andrew Lloyd Webber's worldwide phenomenon CATS is reimagined in a production that smashed records in its Off-Brordway run, won awards and left New York City purring. CATS: The Jellicle Ball is ascending to Broadway in a kaleidoscope of glittering spectacle, iconic music, and electrifying ballroom choreography. Broadway meets Runway in the fiercest event of the season, directed by Obie Award winners Zhailon Levingston and Bill Rauch, with choreography by Obie Award winners and New York City Ballroom legends Omari Wiles (House of Ricci) and Arturo Lyons (House of Miyake-Mugler). The production begins at the Broadhurst Theatre March 18, with opening night set for April 7.
