With 41 Broadway houses to choose from, even the most prolific stars seldom end up back at a theatre they’ve played before, but that doesn’t mean it never happens! We take a look at 27 Broadway performers who have played the same theatre more than once.

Patti LuPone
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 6
This Tony winner’s earliest and most recent credits brought her to the Nederlander. LuPone made her Broadway debut in 1973 appearing in a repertory season that included productions of The Three Sisters, The Beggar’s Opera, Measure for Measure, Scapin, and Next Time I’ll Sing to You at what was then called the Billy Rose Theatre (now the Nederlander). LuPone returned just last season in War Paint. She’s also had repeat engagements at the Vivian Beaumont (Anything Goes and a concert engagement, Matters of the Heart), the John Golden (Master Class and The Anarchist), and the Belasco (Accidental Death of an Anarchist and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown).

Glenn Close
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 4
Like LuPone before her, Glenn Close began her Broadway career appearing with a repertory company, the New Phoenix Repertory, which presented productions of Love for Love, The Rules of the Game, and The Member of the Wedding at the Helen Hayes Theatre in 1974. Close returned to the Hayes four years later in The Crucifer of Blood, a Sherlock Holmes play. Close has also played the Brooks Atkinson twice, in 1985’s Benefactors and 1992’s Death and the Maiden.

Bernadette Peters
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 3
When Bernadette Peters joined the cast of Hello, Dolly!, it was her second time at the Shubert Theatre, following her 2003 performance as Mama Rose in Gypsy, but it is the Marquis Theatre where she has played the most, in 1993’s The Goodbye Girl, the 1999 revival of Annie Get Your Gun (for which she won her second Tony Award), and the 2011 revival of Follies. Peters also appeared in two shows at the Booth theatre, a short-lived 1967 play titled The Girl in the Freudian Slip and the 1984 Sondheim musical Sunday in the Park with George.

Kelli O’Hara
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 3
After leading a hit 2008 revival of South Pacific at the Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont, O’Hara returned in 2015 for a revival of The King and I, for which she won her Tony Award. Together with her 2005 performance in Lincoln Center’s The Light in the Piazza, that makes three appearances at the Beaumont for O’Hara. She’s also played repeat engagements at the Belasco (the 2001 revival of Follies and Dracula the Musical) and the Schoenfeld (her Broadway debut performance in Jekyll & Hyde and Bridges of Madison County).

Terrence Mann
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 3
The Broadhurst has been home to three Terrence Mann Broadway performances, including Sondheim’s only Broadway play Getting Away with Murder, the 2005 bio-musical Lennon, and 2016’s Tuck Everlasting. Mann has also played the Lunt-Fontanne twice, in The Addams Family and Finding Neverland. (Beauty and the Beast, in which Mann created the role of the Beast, played part of its Broadway run at the Lunt-Fontanne, but not while Mann was part of the company.)

Audra McDonald
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 3
Audra McDonald won the first of her six career Tony Awards playing Carrie Pipperidge in the 1994 revival of Carousel at the Vivian Beaumont, so it’s only appropriate that McDonald has returned to the Beaumont no less than two times, in 1999’s Marie Christine and 2003’s Henry IV.

Taylor Trensch
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 3
Taylor Trensch is headed back to the Shubert in To Kill a Mockingbird, after he starred in the 2017 Hello, Dolly! revival and created the role of Michael Wormwood in 2013’s Matilda The Musical.

Adam Pasacal
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 3
Adam Pascal is best known for creating the role of Roger in Rent, a role that gave Pascal his Broadway debut at the Nederlander Theatre. He returned to the Nederlander in 2016 for Disaster!, and in 2019 for a one-week engagement playing Edward Lewis in Pretty Woman: The Musical.

Laura Benanti
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
Laura Benanti has returned to both of her earliest Broadway homes. She made her debut in the 1998 revival of The Sound of Music at the Martin Beck, returning in 2006 for The Wedding Singer, after the theatre had been renamed the Al Hirschfeld. Her second Broadway outing was in 1999’s Swing at the St. James, where she returned in 2008 to play the title role of Gypsy and win a Tony Award for her performance.

Nathan Lane
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
The St. James has been home to two mega-hit Nathan Lane-led Broadway productions: The Producers and the 1996 revival of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, which both won Lane Best Actor in a Musical Tony Awards! Lane also appeared in two shows at the Vivian Beaumont (Some Americans Abroad and The Frogs) and two at Circle in the Square (Present Laughter and On Borrowed Time).

Matthew Broderick
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
Broderick started his Broadway career creating the role of Eugene Jerome in Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs and Biloxi Blues, both of which opened at the Alvin Theatre (later appropriately re-named the Neil Simon).

Kerry Butler
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
After creating the role of Penny in 2002’s Hairspray at the Neil Simon, Butler returned in 2011 (along with much of the Hairspray creative team) for Catch Me if You Can. Butler also played Audrey in the 2003 revival of Little Shop of Horrors across the street from the Neil Simon at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson), where she returned in 2018 for Mean Girls.

Lin-Manuel Miranda
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
Broadway juggernaut Hamilton plays the Richard Rodgers Theatre, which is also where the show’s writer and original star Lin-Manuel Miranda made his Broadway debut with 2008’s In the Heights. But Miranda is not the only performer who appeared in both productions; Chris Jackson, Javier Muñoz, and Mandy Gonzalez have all also played both Heights and Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers.

Joshua Henry
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
This In the Heights-alum hasn’t appeared in Hamilton on Broadway yet (Henry opened the Chicago production as Aaron Burr) but he did return to the Richard Rodgers in 2012 in Porgy and Bess.

Sutton Foster
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
Though it wasn’t her Broadway debut, Sutton Foster definitely put herself on the map at the Marquis Theatre playing the title role in 2002’s Thoroughly Modern Millie, winning the first of her two Tony Awards for the performance. Foster returned to the Marquis in 2006 to create the role of Janet Van De Graaff in The Drowsy Chaperone.

Rachel Bay Jones
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
Rachel Bay Jones won a Tony for her performance in Dear Evan Hansen at the Music Box Theatre, where she also appeared in the 2013 revival of Pippin.

David Hyde Pierce
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
Before earning a Tony nomination for his Horace Vandergelder in Hello, Dolly! at the Shubert, Pierce also appeared in Spamalot in the same theatre in 2005.

Betsy Wolfe
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
Betsy Wolfe made her Broadway debut in 2007, playing Katheryn Bawner in 110 in the Shade at Studio 54, where Wolfe returned in 2012 to play Rosa Bud in a revival of The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

Aaron Tveit
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
Like Kerry Butler, Aaron Tveit is a Broadway veteran of both Hairspray—he played Link during the run—and Catch Me If You Can, in which he led the company as Frank Abagnale, Jr. Both productions played the Neil Simon.

Andy Karl
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
Andy Karl’s earned a Tony nomination leading the cast of Groundhog Day as news reporter Phil Connors at the August Wilson Theatre. Karl also played the August Wilson during the run of Jersey Boys, playing Tommy DeVito.

Telly Leung
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
Playing the title role in Disney’s Aladdin, Telly Leung had the pleasure of performing in one of Broadway’s biggest houses, but it was in one of Broadway’s smallest that he made a repeat performance. Leung appeared in both the 2011 revival of Godspell and 2016’s In Transit at the Circle in the Square theatre.

Keala Settle
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
You may have seen Keala Settle recently on the big screen in The Greatest Showman, but she’s got Broadway roots. Settle appeared in 2013’s Hands on a Hard Body as Norma Valverde at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, where she returned in 2016 to create the role of Becky in Waitress.

Will Swenson
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
This Tony-nominated performer made his second Broadway appearance in the ensemble of the short-lived Elton John vampire musical Lestat, which played the Palace. Swenson returned to the Palace starring as Tick in Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Donna Murphy
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
Two-time Tony winner Donna Murphy made her Broadway debut as a replacement ensemble member in They’re Playing Our Song, which played the Imperial Theatre. Just a few years later, she was back at the Imperial in the ensemble of The Mystery of Edwin Drood, though she would go on to replace Betty Buckley in the title role.

Matt Doyle
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
Matt Doyle made his Broadway debut as a replacement during the original run of Spring Awakening on Broadway, playing Melchior and Hanschen at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre. Doyle returned to the O’Neill in 2012 playing Elder Price in The Book of Mormon.

Brian d’Arcy James
Record repeat performances at a single theatre: 2
Brian d’Arcy James has appeared twice at the Vivian Beaumont theatre, in the ensemble of Carousel in 1994 and as Banquo in Macbeth in 2013.

Victoria Clark
Record repeat performances at a single theatre:
This Tony-winning actor’s repeat performances were back-to-back. After creating the role of Mother Superior in Sister Act in 2011 at the Broadway Theatre, she played Marie (spoiler alert: the fairy godmother) in Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella in 2013 at that same theatre.
