It takes a village to put together a show, and it takes a village to have a career in the arts. Playbill asked the 2024 Tony nominees to talk about the people who helped them get to where they are. Some discussed mentors and colleagues, and others turned to their families. Above, watch the Tony nominees movingly talk about the sacrifices their families made so they could have a career in the arts.
For The Outsiders' Sky Lakota-Lynch, he thought of his mom, who unequivocally supported his career: "She used to do all my audition tapes with me, and she's not an actress and English is not her first language."
For other nominees, they thought about their current families, who so willingly accommodate the atypical Broadway schedule—where work is usually done at night. Said Merrily We Roll Along's Lindsay Mendez, "My new husband [J. Alex Brinson] and our daughter Lucy—they come with me to the theatre and make me feel like I still get to be a mom."
Some of the nominees will become winners on Tony night, so consider the video above a preview of their acceptance speeches.
