The true story behind the new Broadway musical Come from Away will be the subject of a new documentary film under the working title Come From Away: From Gander to Broadway.
The new musical explores the lasting connection forged between a group of travelers whose planes were diverted to a small Newfoundland town during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The travelers were known as “come from aways.” The musical they inspired opened on Broadway March 12 after playing try-out engagements across the U.S.
The intimate ensemble musical has swiftly become a critic and audience favorite.
The documentary film, directed by Moze Mossanen and produced by Peter Gentile and Bill House, will tell “the real story of the relationship between the Ganderites and the travellers, and explores the hit Broadway musical inspired by their story.”
