House of the Dragon's Emma D’Arcy to Star in The Other Place Off-Broadway | Playbill

Off-Broadway News House of the Dragon's Emma D’Arcy to Star in The Other Place Off-Broadway

The production, coming from London, will run at The Shed.

Alexander Zeldin's The Other Place, which played London's National Theatre in 2024, will make its North American premiere next year at Off-Broadway's The Shed. Performances in The Griffin Theater are set for January 30-March 1, 2026, with an official opening February 5.

Also directed by the playwright, the cast will feature four members of the original U.K. company—Lee Braithwaite (Cowbois), Emma D’Arcy (House of the Dragon), Jerry Killick (The Confessions), and Tobias Menzies (The Crown)—with the additions of Lorna Brown (The Witcher) and Ruby Stokes (Lockwood & Co).

The Other Place follows two sisters who reunite at the family home to mark the anniversary of their father’s death. Their uncle is attempting a fresh start, but one of the sisters threatens to shatter this peace, demanding justice for the pain she carries.

“Zeldin’s The Other Place is a deeply humane and highly original piece of theatre that asks: can we find empathy when confronted with the objectification of others?” said Shed Artistic Director Alex Poots in a statement. “This incredible ensemble cast delivers stellar, embodied performances for a truly unforgettable evening of theatre. It’s an honor to share this unique production with North American audiences for the first time at The Shed in 2026.”

“Together with the National Theatre and A Zeldin Company, I am hugely excited about bringing my play The Other Place to New York, and to The Shed. After the incredible experience of LOVE at the Park Avenue Armory, it's a huge honor to meet New York audiences again. At the heart of The Other Place is a basic question: How do we live with shame, with grief, and how should we act when faced with the overwhelming suffering of others in front of us? In our world, this last question has a terrible relevance. Tragedy, for the Greeks, was about pity and fear, and I think, ultimately, about compassion, the understanding of those who suffer. I wrote this play for Emma D'Arcy, whose singular, relentless truth as a performer has long inspired me. Joined by the formidable Tobias Menzies and the rest of the brilliant cast and the creative team, we are excited to be at The Shed, working with Alex Poots and his team this winter," added writer and director Zeldin.

The Other Place also has original music by Yannis Philippakis, set and costume design by Rosanna Vize, lighting design by James Farncombe, sound design by Josh Anio Grigg, casting by Alastair Coomer, movement by Marcin Rudy, and associate direction by Sammy J Glover.

The upcoming production marks the continuation of a creative partnership between The Shed and the National Theatre built on their shared mission to present socially urgent, daring new work.
