In Part 1, two characters go on what they call “rounds”. Through these rounds they gain insight into countless lives. They experience suffering and hardship and the eventual end. Through the course of this part they attempt to discover why they are on this journey and what they are trying to solve. The being of “He”, who sent them on this endless loop, studies them as they continue their plight.
In Part 2, we follow two cowboys by the names of Def and Fed. They are tasked with retrieving a body from the desert and bringing it back to town. During this quest, they discuss their pasts and realize that not all is as it seems with this mission.
Part One: The Desire To Go Softly Into The Night
X: Any age, Any identity. A stalwart individual, unwavering in their cause. Slowly broken over time by the horrors they endure.
Y: Any age, Any identity. Doubtful, yet consistent. Constantly questioning, but remain committed.
He: Any age, Any identity. An omniscient figure. Pragmatic and objective, but distinctly human.
Part Two: 2 Fellas And Their Sins
Def: Any age, Any identity. Self assured and confident. Carries a deep love for Fed, but can be confused by their hyper-emotionality.
Fed: Any age, Any identity. Soft and emotional. Optimistic view of the world. Funny and caring.
The Body: Any age, Any identity. An omniscient figure. Pragmatic and objective, but distinctly human.
Note:
Each character will double as another character in the second part. All performers should have a wide range.
The performer playing X should also play Def
The performer playing Y should also play The Body
The performer playing He should also play Fed
The play also calls for many different accents to be used. These can be adjusted according to the performer's abilities, but a strong southern accent is required for Def and Fed.
